Yellow Experiences Creative Debut’s Anti-Art Fair

Against the backdrop of busy and bustling Peckham, Creative Debut showcases their Anti-Art Fair, a celebration of upcoming and emerging artists. Described as a ‘call for greater diversity in the arts’, the exhibition acts as a response to the elitist and money-hungry art world, aiming to shine a light on the most talented creatives in the UK and beyond.

The exhibition includes the work of feminist art group ‘Nasty Women’, a collective of female artists across the globe who work in solidarity with gender equality. The group includes Margalida Maria Crespi, a Portuguese artist whose ‘Dick-Stagram’ collection stood out as one of the most crucial and profound exhibition spaces, if the most distressing.

The collection, which included screenshots of dick-pics and sexting, aims to ignite a conversation on the sexual harassment women experience on social media. Stepping into the space (a small closed off room) you are able to listen to surround sound audio of men voicing the messages sent to Crespi, recreating the uncomfortable and hostile experience which haunts women on the internet.

Another artwork that stood out was Rosie Matheson, whose photography exhibition ‘Boys’ examines the differing world-wide standards of masculinity.

Ultimately, Creative Debut’s Anti-Art Fair was an incredible display of emerging talent in art. Breaking away from the exclusivity of the art-world, the Anti-Art fair succeeds in its diverse and progressive exhibition of the world’s varied incredible pool of artists.
